[30-31 May] Japan-US Innovative Reactors Workshop
Collaborative Workshop with the University of Michigan
"Discussion on Next-Generation Innovative Reactor Technologies for Decarbonization and Economic Development in Japan and the U.S."
Overview
Since its establishment in December 2016, the Center for Fundamental Research on Nuclear Decommissioning (CFReND) at Tohoku University has been engaged in research and development of fundamental technologies to ensure the safe and steady decommissioning of nuclear power plants. This includes fundamental research on the decommissioning of post-accident reactors (Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station) and conventional reactors and the aging management of existing reactors.
Last year, the center launched a collaborative research activity with the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan, focusing on risk management in nuclear power. As part of this collaboration, the first and second workshops in the Japan-U.S. Decommissioning Workshop Series were held in August last year and February this year, respectively.
This time, in relation to the development of power-intensive industries such as AI and quantum computing and achieving carbon neutrality, we will hold a Japan-U.S. workshop to discuss innovative reactors with enhanced safety as detailed below.
